Fur & Frills

This series of miniature dolls draws inspiration from fashion, animals, and the act of small-scale making. Each figure was constructed by sculpting heads onto wire armatures, layering and securing fibres, hand-painting features, and sewing garments by hand. The process emphasizes careful craftsmanship and attention to detail, allowing each doll to feel individually considered. The designs are influenced by gothic and Lolita fashion aesthetics, incorporating lace, bows, and ornamental elements that reference both historical dress and contemporary subcultural style. Clothing functions not only as decoration but as an extension of character, shaping how each figure is perceived and animated visually. Animal-inspired features play a central role in the series, with the dolls loosely modelled after familiar companion animals. By merging human and animal characteristics, the work explores themes of affection, comfort, and imaginative projection, echoing the way childhood objects often become vessels for personality and emotion.
